Obituary of Louise Friesen

Louise Friesen, aged 91 years of Morris, and formerly of Ste. Elizabeth, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 26, 2018 at the Red River Valley Lodge.

Louise leaves to mourn her cousins and many friends.  She was lovingly known to many as Tante Louise and Miss Louise.  She was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Elizabeth (Derksen) Friesen, sister Helen, and brothers Julius (Agnes) and John.

Louise was born on July 22, 1926 on the family farm south of Ste. Elizabeth.

In her early years on the farm, Louise cared for her sister and her mother.  She also babysat for nearly all the children in the Ste. Elizabeth area where peppermint cookies and pink popcorn balls were plenty.  After her father’s death, Louise and her brother, John, farmed from 1953 until 1979 when they moved to Morris.

Louise was an active member in the Lichtenau Mennonite Church and later on she attended the Morris Mennonite Church.

Louise was always on the go.  She was an active curler, a 4H leader, taught Sunday School, worked at Schroeder’s Greenhouse, taught at Daily Vacation Bible School, was a member of the Valley Ag Society, worked at theRed River Valley Lodge, volunteered at the M.C.C. Self-Help Store and Relief Auction and played trumpet in the Marsh River Band.  Louise also traveled extensively and took numerous bus tours.

We will miss her infectious laugh.

Thank you to the staff at Red River Valley Lodge for providing loving care.  Thank you also to Louise’s many friends who faithfully visited her throughout the years.

The funeral service will be held at the Morris Fellowship Chapel on Tuesday, January 30 at 11:00 am.  The interment will take place prior to the funeral at the Lichtenau Cemetery.  Viewing will take place at the Morris Funeral Home, Monday, January 29, from 12:00pm to 6:00pm; a devotional time will take place at 7:00pm.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her memory to M.C.C. or the Morris Area Foundation.
