Our hearts go out to your entire family as you mourn Len's passing. We well remember his kindness when my (Lorn) parents died. Len thoughtfully provided us with large fruit platters. Then, my memories of Len go way back to elementary school days at De Wet. One memory that stands out (Len wasn't always perfect to everyone!) was when the older lads in school tied Len to a tree (that's still there), leaving him there while we all responded to the school bell after lunch hour. Len's Dad had to untie him from the tree; there were probably some repercussions for the older students later!
In later years, when Laura and I returned to the family farm, Len and I (having adjoining land) often had the opportunity to stop the tractors and visit, discussing appropriate weed control measures for the constant enemy of crops.
As recently as the day before Len's stroke, I visited with him for a long while over breakfast at the golf club.
Whenever we visited, it was Len who first inquired about us ... he was always interested in others and, when asked about himself, it was always "I'm good" or "I'm OK".
I will miss those visits with my childhood friend.
May God comfort all of you wonderful people!
