Obituary of Charles Covernton

Charles (Charles/Chas) Clement Covernton, 83, of Morris, MB, passed away peacefully on the early hours of January 12 , 2020 after spending the day surrounded by family. Chas was born March 4, 1936 in the old Victoria Hospital in Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his parents, Geoffrey and Elizabeth Covernton (Forrest), and nephew Geoff Covernton. He is survived by his wife Rita, brother Alan Covernton, daughterJanice (Brian), son Patrick,daughter-in-law Karen Larson, hisgrandchildren Kieran (Jill) , Ainsley (Caden), Julia, Jess, Rachel, and Nathaniel, and his great-grandson “Kian Bear”. He is also survived by numerous other family members. All were special to him in many ways. Chas lived most of his life in Morris and was proud to say so. After a brief stint working with the Bank of Montreal, he returned back to Morris to run the family farm after his own father passed away. This was his true love and calling. Next to friends and family, the community of Morris was a huge priority for him. He was proud to serve and contribute in many ways- most notably with the Morris Stampede/Valley Agricultural Society. Chas loved to play piano and there are many that enjoyed his “tinkling of the ivories”. He also loved the outdoors and traveling with Mom and their friends/family. We are grateful that they had the opportunity in their retirement years to visit other countries and also hook up the 5th wheel for “tours’ to many parts of North America. After battling several serious illnesses over the past few years, Chas’passing has brought him to a place of peace. Chas will be dearly missed by those who loved him, but we will feel his presence, especially when at the farm. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Chas and Rita’s many friends who visited them over the past year as their health issues worsened. They would also like to thank the staff of Heavenly Care, the on-call doctors and the staff at Morris Hospital and St. Boniface Hospital for their care, especially Dr. Turnley Wong. A celebration of Chas’ life will be held on Saturday, January 18 at 3:30pm at Morris Mulitplex Recreation Centre-South Hall Entrance. A private family interment will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, donations in Chas’s memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of their choice.
