Obituary
Obituary of Rebekah Friesen
Rebekah Noell Grace Friesen (nee Foord) of Rosenort, Manitoba, passed away on January 9, 2022 at the age of 41.
Rebekah was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on December 23, 1980. She grew up in Snow Lake, Manitoba. The first few years of her life were filled with medical challenges and instilled in her a fighting spirit. After graduating from high school, she attended Bethany College in Hepburn, SK, where she received her BA in Pastoral Ministries. She also met her husband Trevor there, and the two were married on May 15, 2004.They brought two children into the world and Rebekah was a fierce mama bear to the very end. The last words her children heard her say were “I love you”. Those were not merely words, but actions in her everyday life.
Rebekah was passionate about connecting with people on a deep level. The many challenges she faced in her life became gateways of empathy for people in difficult circumstances. She was comfortable sitting with people in their pain. Providing support and connections were life giving to her. Wherever she found herself in the world, she brought people together so they wouldn’t feel alone.
Rebekah’s faith in Jesus was extremely important to her. She saw God in his creation. Whether it was chasing the northern lights, experiencing a sunset, witnessing the power of a waterfall or the soothing sound of crashing waves, all of them pointed her to her Creator. Music was also a powerful connector. Countless hours were spent soaking in the melody and lyrics of worship songs. She found great joy in walking alongside others in their relationship with God. In her last years, she studied to become a spiritual director to help people see the fingerprints of God in their lives.
Rebekah is predeceased by 3 unborn children and her father-in-law Mel Friesen.
Rebekah is survived by her husband Trevor and their children Isaiah and Kayra, her parents, Greg & Val Foord, her sister Sara-Lynne & David Koop, mother-in-law Mary Friesen and siblings Cora & Trevor Dueck (Sierra & Jonah) and Kendall & Sabrina Friesen (Gavin & India).
