Obituary of Anna Friesen

Anna (Anne) Friesen, passed away peacefully at the age of 89 years on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Red River Valley Lodge in Morris, Manitoba. On this day our Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother was called home by her heavenly father. She was predeceased by her husband Bernhard Friesen (1987), her parents Anna & David Wiebe, and brothers David & Martin Wiebe. Anne is survived by her son Allen (Debra), daughter Grace (Gord), son Norman (Deanna), daughter Dolores (Curt), and daughter Rhonda (Merv), 15 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren. Anne was born on June 9, 1933, on her family farm, in the District of Neuhoffnung near Altona. Anne was married to Ben on July 5, 1953. Anne and Ben raised their 5 children in the town of Morris. Anne was very active in her church community through many years of ladies ministries. Anne and Ben had a passion for supporting missions and frequently hosted missionaries in their home. They were also actively involved in serving as a Deacon couple in the church community offering support to those in need. As a wonderful seamstress, Anne also worked at the local fabric store until its closing. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her family, camping, traveling, playing games with grandchildren and organizing meals with extended family. Her buns, pickles, jams and ice cream pails full of cookies were always a highlight. She always offered a welcome place for sleepovers, after school chats, and storytelling. For her grandchildren, Anne was an ocean of unconditional love who was always available to celebrate achievements but also to share the burden of sorrow. In 2008, Anne moved from her house to the Fairview Place in Morris. She enjoyed her time in Morris but in 2016 she felt she felt she needed more resources to support her health. It was then that she made the decision to transition to assisted living at Lindenwood Terrace in Winnipeg. She made this particular choice because it was a central location where she could be closer her children and her grandchildren. Unfortunately, due to the challenges related to Covid, she endured much isolation and her health deteriorated to a point that she could no longer manage on her own. For the last year of her life she returned to Morris, under the care of the Red River Valley Lodge, where she eventually departed her earthly body with family by her side. The funeral service will be held Thursday, Nov. 10, 2022 at Morris Fellowship Chapel. Interment will precede service. Viewing will take place on Nov. 9, 2022 from 12-8 pm at Morris Funeral Home. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff at Red River Valley Lodge for its wonderful care during over the past year of challenges. Donations can be made in Anne’s memory to the Morris Youth for Christ Drop-in Centre.
