Mr. Kornelsen was my absolute favorite teacher, he was patient and kind and it was evident that he truly enjoyed teaching, and questions were always welcome. He will be missed.

Mr. Kornelson was a teacher who believed in you and made class fun. The games in between such as "this, that" I think it was called were fun and a nice break from learning. When I was learning algebra, I remember struggling to understand and getting 50's in my marks. One day the lightbulb went on and I understood and started getting 90's. It was a compliment to have the Principal approach me and congratulate me, knowing Mr. Kornelson had bragged about me. My condolences to the family. He was appreciated by many.

Dear Kornelson Clan,
Though I only know all of you through Audra & Walter, I have often said that the greatest tribute to a woman or a man is the voice of their children. Lorne was obviously a very good man. With all my kindest support I wish you love and healing and all the warmth your memories will bring. The tribute you will most powerfully set for Lorne is to live a life of happy tears, then rejoicing, and then thriving. In this life, Lorne truly lives on in you all as you live in joy and in triumphant expectation of future dates, whether "here or there or in the air"....
Yours,
Art Vesterdal

Lorne and I became best friends as teenagers, and we shared the love of music, starting as teenagers, singing in choirs, and when he was 16, and I was 15, we started a quartet. Lorne was always the lead tenor, and I sang the high tenor. The bass and second bass positions changed from time to time, but we ended with Leonard Loewen bass and Waldo Brandt as second bass. We sang at many weddings, funerals, and other occasions, for more than 10 years. These memories, and many more as friends as married couples, are very dear to me, and will never be forgotten. Lorne will be greatly missed, especially on our next visit to Rosenort.

My wife, Marie, and I joined the Keenagers Choir about eleven years ago, with the encouragement of Lorne and Doris Kornelson.
We greatly enjoyed the fellowship and the leadership of Lorne. Lorne encouraged Marie to continue in the choir even though her dementia was becoming very evident.
I was especially blessed when Lorne agreed to ask the Keenagers Choir to sing at Marie's funeral on July 16, 2022.
Now they can sing together in Heaven, the subject of so many of the songs we sang as Keenagers.

I remember Uncle Lorne as one of the star volleyball players in family gatherings at the Rosenort Elementary School when I was young. The gym was always a hub of activity with participation from all generations and lots of noise, energy and enthusiasm.
My love and condolences to the family--Aunt Doris and my cousins Audra, Jaunita and Cassandra and your families. May your wonderful memories of your husband, father and grandfather, give you comfort and joy in the coming weeks and months, even as you miss his physical presence.

Mr Kornelsen was my basketball coach and 7th grade teacher. He was so encouraging and his intensity and love for sports inspired me to be the best I could be. I’m grateful to have had him as a mentor in my life. Condolences to his family.

My memories of uncle Lorne mainly involve crokinole, family sports (I think Rook is included in this category?!), and singing--and in latter years, directing our parents' Keenager choir. I love that these memories also involve him entering fully into everything he put his hand to.
Our sincerest sympathies and condolences to your entire family.

Mr. K had an incredible influence on me as young student. I was somewhat unsure of who I was and what I wanted to do as I entered junior high. Lorne instilled in me a competitive drive that I still have to this day. He encouraged me as an athlete to really strive to do my best and gave me opportunities to do this as a coach and teacher. I continue to compete in many sports that Lorne gave me my first taste of success in. I credit Lorne as a big part of inspiring me to get into teaching and coaching. I remember chatting with him in the staffroom here at the Rosenort School once I returned to my alma mater as a teacher, he was in as a substitute teacher and thinking it was an honour to be a colleague of his after aspiring to follow his lead when I started my journey to become a teacher. I feel fortunate I got the chance to tell him that he had inspired me to pursue the job I love so much. His response was very true who he was. He humbly stated he was happy that he had helped put me on a similar path that he gained so much fulfillment from. Lorne saw past the somewhat awkward grade 7 student in his class all those years ago and pushed me to be more confident, do my best and not let anyone tell me I couldn't do something.
I am lucky to have been able to work as a colleague with two of his daughters, to be a coach and teacher to a few of his grandchildren as well. They are all excellent living tributes to the kind of person Lorne was.
Lorne was a true leader, pillar of the community and a man that we should all try be like. Rest in peace Mr. K, your legacy will live on for many years beyond your lifetime and you will be missed by more than you will ever know.

Lorne was my first voice and theory teacher and choir conductor. He inspired, stretched my confidence or lack thereof by giving me opportunities to sing. I will forever be grateful. He will always be admired for how he shared his gift of music to shine the light of Jesus.
My condolences to the Kornelson family. May His peace surround you with comfort. Amanda (nee Loewen) Peters

It was my privilege to get to know Lorne during my time as a school trustee. This fine teacher and even finer man impressed me as a teacher who truly cared for his students ... above and beyond his time in the classroom. Although, unfortunately for me, I did not get to know him very well, he was always ready and willing to visit with me. May God comfort his family ... as only He can.

I rememeber uncle Lorne as a teacher, sports coach and also family. It was hard to know how to view or balance those different roles in an uncle....one thing was for sure, just because I was his niece and daughter's close friend, I did not get favoritism!! Nope! Perhaps, rather, there was a higher expectation so his big sister wouldn't be disappointed in his abilities to keep me in line, lol! In the later years, he was very gracious un remembering myself and siblings, and other "orphans" in the family, by keeping us up to date with news of the family-at-large. He played a huge role in the Kornelsen family: keeping an eye on grandma and grandpa in Riverside, and making sure "rules" were followed in the frequent sibling rivalry games of Rook. There his competitive nature was well matched, and smiles remained all around. Thank you for the memories, uncle Lorne, and the life lessons you taught as you taught me in the classroom, music room, gym and home. Till we meet again (and say "hi" to Mom and the rest of the bunch. Keep them in line!! Haha)

Condolences to Doris and family! Lorne was one of my school teachers and when I had trouble in math classes in grade school he gave me extra time after school to help me understand the lesson. I also remember him as a good hockey player (as a forward) along with my brother Bryan (defenseman) and my dad as coach for the Rosenort Regals.

Lorne was integral. Called me to remind me that we had agreed on a fee re there home sale. People tend to forget verbal agreements. Not Lorne and I told him so. He was elevated in my eyes for his recall. Thanks Lorne. From Don Heinrichs
