Obituary of Myrna Sylvia Fitchett

Myrna Sylvia Fitchett (nee Harrison) 1937-2024 After a brief illness, Myrna passed away peacefully with family at her side. Myrna was predeceased by her loving husband Bill. She will be sadly missed by her four children and their families: Janice (Stan), Samantha and Ryan; Jeffrey (Nadine), Ariel and Tanyon; Keith (Cynthia), Willis; Kathryn (Robert), Megan and Matthew; as well as her brother Grant (Trudy); and numerous nieces and nephews. Following Myrna`s childhood in rural Manitoba, Myrna and Bill lived for many years raising their family in Morris before retiring to Winnipeg. Myrna graduated from Manitoba`s Health Sciences Centre as a Registered Nurse in 1956 where she worked her way up to Head Nurse of ENT before starting a family and changing direction to part time ward nurse and full-time mother and wife. In 1974 she became manager at the Red River Valley Care home in Morris MB, a position she enjoyed and thrived at until her retirement in 1996. Myrna was an active member of the community, church and Eastern Star, volunteering for many activities long into her retirement years. Myrna was also very proud her family and their accomplishments. She loved traveling with her family and often reminisced about cross Canada camping vacations with the four children; driving the freeways of Chicago at rush hour, and exploring India, Thailand and Hong Kong with Bill. She loved all living things and from early childhood always held a special place in her heart for family pets. All 4 legged visitors quickly learned where she kept the treat jar! Gardening for Myrna was a joy and her last hours at home were outside checking on her garden boxes and enjoying her yard. According to Myrna's wishes, she will be cremated. A family service and interment will be held later this year. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Or, if you prefer, take a moment to spend some time with someone special, family or friend: go to a movie; out for dinner; take a walk in the park; cuddle with a pet; and celebrate a life well lived. Special thanks to the staff at St. Boniface Hospital ER, ICU, and 8th floor. Myrna would have approved of your care, compassion, and professionalism.
