Obituary of Stanley Bryan Dueck

Suddenly on October 1st, 2023 our hearts were crushed when Stan passed at the age of 77. Word has it that I arrived on this planet November 25, 1945. I was the youngest of John K and Bertha (nee Schellenberg) Dueck`s children. Left to cherish my memories is my wife Val, daughter Nicole (Tori), grandchildren Carl and Keira, brother Johnny, sisters Eleanor, Helen, Gladys, Lorraine (Lorne) and nieces, nephews and many friends. Predeceased by son Bryan, brother Ralph, sister-in-law Elsie, brother-in-laws Dick, Abe, John and Pete. In my early years I spent much time on our farm playing in the garden with almost every Tonka toy made and learning how to ride a two-wheeled bike. When school days came along I attended many elementary schools because of the location where I lived. My high schooling was at Greenbank a school in Rosenort. Sports played a great part in my life. I enjoyed most sports including, baseball, soccer, football and hockey. I played hockey for many years and playing for the Rosenort Regals we won a Championship in 1966 defeating Aubigny 5-4 in OT. Wow! Later curling and golf took up a lot of my time. When I joined the workforce many different jobs kept me busy…farming, working at Rosenort Motors, and cement work at Dick`s construction. In 1964 my interests turned to gravel trucking which I did for 14 years. In 1970 I married Delorese Clement, we had two children Bryan and Nicole. Bryan passed in 2008 at the age of 36. I was the co-owner of Dueck’s IGA and later Bigway Foods in Morris. After selling my shares in 1999 I moved to Winnipeg and worked at Sobeys until 2018 when I retried. I met my wife Val Bickford at a birthday party in the fall of 1999 and married a few years later. Val and I loved to travel going to Mexico several times, Cuba, Jamaica, DR, Costa Rica, Roatan Honduras with friends. We especially enjoyed our trip with Nicole, Tori, Carl and Keira to Orlando to see Disney, Universal and Sea World. The last few years we have been vacationing in Treasure Island Florida. I could go on and on but I will finish there. I imagine I will be sadly missed by some but also those who will say “It was about time the old guy was gone!” I would say I had a good life. “Auf Vider Zane” Recently Stan has enjoyed the folks and programs at the St. James 55+ centre and the many golf outings with the Thursday afternoon Men's group. The family wishes to thank the responding Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Services, as well as the compassionate attending Police Officers and Rose (MEI). In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. James Assiniboia 55+ center (stjamescentre.com) or The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba A Gathering to remember Stan will be held Friday, October 13, 2023 at 2:00pm at the Morris MultiPlex.
