Obituary of Erna Sawatzky

Erna Sawatzky, Nee Hildebrand, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2024, at Boundary Trails Health Centre at the age of 92 years. Erna is survived by her daughter, Ruth (Joe) Varrone, son Walter (Eunice) Sawatzky, 6 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. Erna was predeceased by her husband Abe in 2014, daughter Esther, and son Steven. Erna and Abe married in 1950, after a long distance (Manitoba – B.C.) relationship. They settled in the Lowe Farm area, where they involved themselves in the church and community while farming together and raising their children. In 2012 they joined a new community when they retired to Winkler. After Abe passed away in 2014, Erna joined another new community at the Buhler Active Living Centre. Here she enjoyed making a lot of new friends. The funeral service for Erna Sawatzky will be held Saturday February 3, 2024 at 2:00pm at the Lowe Farm Bergthaler Mennonite Church, with interment at the Lowe Farm Cemetery. Viewing will be held Friday February 2, from 12:00pm to 6:00pm at the Morris Funeral Home. The family would like to thank the staff at BTHC for the wonderful care and compassion shown to mom during her time there, as well as all those who stopped by to visit her, and called or texted with condolences.
