Obituary of Genevieve Elizabeth Manikel

Genevieve Elizabeth Manikel May 13, 1926-September 10, 2024 Peacefully in the early morning of September 10, Genevieve passed away after a long and happy life. Genevieve was the sixth of seven children born to Thomas and Ella McClelland on May 13, 1926. She enjoyed a happy childhood on the family farm in the Marais district, north of Emerson, MB. She and Eddie were married in September 1946 and after some time working in California, settled on their own farm along the Red River south of St. Jean MB. Genevieve was a wonderful and hard-working partner to Eddie. She was a loving and supportive mother and fun-loving grandmother. She was very involved with community activities especially the Morris United Church, the Women’s Institute and the Stampede “Pioneer Partners”. Mom also enjoyed her many years working at the St Jean Medical Clinic. Genevieve and Eddie travelled extensively and spent 25 winters in Panama City Beach where they made many more life-long friends. Throughout her life, Genevieve treasured poetry and she took pleasure in reciting some of her favourite poems, right up to the time of her passing. Genevieve leaves her family: Randy (Anne), Barrie (Joy), Dale (Lynne) and Tannis as well as nine grandchildren (Jason (Noriko), Kristi, Kelly, Leigh (Denise), Mark, Stacey (Chad Matthies), Britney (Kevin Rempel), Alissa (Nhat Doan) & Kayla (Rene DeMoissac) and nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Margaret England. Genevieve was predeceased by her husband Eddie in 2012 as well as her sisters Ruth (Alex Milne), Irene (Ian Milne), Bernice (John Bedsworth), her brothers George McClelland (Merna) and Lorne McClelland (Marion) and her brother-in-law Tom England. A memorial service will be held on October 15th at 2:00 pm at the Morris United Church. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to The Canadian Foodgrains Bank or the Canadian Cancer Society in Genevieve’s honour.
